Bravia Engine
The 40x3500 comes with BRAVIA ENGINE EX. This is an enhanced version of the now renowned BRAVIA ENGINE Intelligent Picture Technology. It performs many of the same functions, but at a far higher level. Four advanced technologies (Composite Component Technology, Image Format Technology, Flat Panel Display Driver Technology and Digital Reality Creation) combine to produce outstanding 40x3500 picture performance with even greater density and depth.

Live Colour Creation
Live Colour Creation is also an integral part of the 40X3500 offering from Sony. LCC is a new Sony technology unique to BRAVIA televisions. It delivers 30% wider colour than conventional LCD technology. This result in a release of far deeper and more accurate tones for stunning colour reproduction, exactly as nature intended.

LCD
The 40X3500 uses Liquid Crystal Display technology; this is one of the methods used to create flat-panel TVs. Light isn't created by the liquid crystals; a light source (bulb) behind the panel shines light through the display. The display consists of two polarizing transparent panels and a liquid crystal solution sandwiched in between. An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them. Each crystal acts like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light. The pattern of transparent and dark crystals forms the image. LCD technology is used in direct-view, rear-projection and front- projection TVs.

1080p
The ultimate HD format all included with the 40x3500 – 1080p provides more than 2 million pixels for a smooth high resolution image. Here the 'p' shows that the image employs the progressive or non-interlaced picture-scanning process where all the lines of the image are refreshed by every vertical scan. 1080p is the maximum resolution defined for HDTV use and this format is used for Blu-ray Disc® and PLAYSTATION®3. So with 1080p included with your KDL40X3500 you can be sure you are watching the best picture possible.

HDMI
HDMI, also part of the technology used in the KDL-40X3500, Stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. Similar to DVI (but using much smaller connectors), the multi-pin HDMI interface transfers uncompressed digital video with copy protection and multichannel audio. Using an adapter, HDMI is backward-compatible with most current DVI connections.
